Before you run out and order your 2012 fertiliser requirements STOP for a few minutes and read the following.
Way back in the mid-1990’s when Manildra Group still owned the 50,000 acre wheat block, “Milton Downs”, Bellata, near Moree, the forward thinking manager Reg Smith gave a few thousand litres of R.U.M. a go.
Satisfied with what he saw on the R.U.M. treated wheat, the following season Reg applied 100,000 Litres of R.U.M. over the total 50,000 acres. “We used over 100,000L of R.U.M. on the crop and reduced our chemical fertiliser costs by around 33%, so if you think of the money 50,000 acres chew up in planting outlays, it’s easy to justify using R.U.M. purely on economic grounds.” Another unusual thing Reg added was that “this year we were remarkably free from crop damage. There was a lot of army worm around our area but it left us pretty much alone... and some wheat that had yellow leaf spot came good after we sprayed R.U.M."
By the end of harvest 62,000 tonnes of wheat had been harvested off the 50,000 acres, not a bad achievement.
Since then Beaulieu R.U.M. of Inverell have continued to supply R.U.M. to customers right across the Australian wheat belt.
In the meantime – with the uncertainty of the weather – don’t forget Beaulieu R.U.M. can be applied BEFORE, DURING or AFTER rain!
Cheers,
Peter
