Overseas onions love R.U.M.Swan Hill, the thriving rural city of the River Murray in N.W. Victoria, has become the onion-seed capital of Australia, thanks to some skillful work by Tim Chadbolt of Jarit Pty. Ltd. For the past ten years, Tim has supervised 15 local farmers contracted to grow onion-seed for the tricky overseas market. Recently, R.U.M. distributor Wormoil Fertiliser Supplies Pty. Ltd. at Swan Hill helped Tim conduct trials on a control plot of onions. "We had been putting small but regular applications of R.U.M. on one plot and I knew that I had the healthiest crop in the district", Tim said. "Although downy mildew had already caused the crop losses to others others, we'd been OK. But when our trials concluded we got hit with it. The boys at Wormoil sent us some more R.U.M. so we continued with the application... and the onions came back with minimal damage. The timing was no coincidence. That's why I'm recommending it to all of our growers for the coming season." According to Tim, disease is the one concern with the overseas contracts. "The R.U.M. treatment seems to results in plants that are more able to resists disease. And it appeals to our overseas clients because we are using natural products", Tim added.
