A Word from Our Maker!G'day, Choc Irwin speaking! It's always good to see 'old' customers still getting top results with R.U.M. and out on the Liverpool Plain, David Bruggerman seems to have found the secret to soya bean success. Customer Ken Hodges from Barraba, north of Tamworth, NSW, has been running 160 cattle on 80 acres of R.U.M.-pasture and can't believe their weight gains over the last 6 months. The R.U.M. hasn't hurt his sorghum either. Meanwhile, up the road between Bingara and Terry Hie Hie, Tony Bayliss had his Heifers on a 1kg/day wight gain. He was so excited that he phone 'The LAND'. That's his story in the Feb. 5/98 issue, page 27. Thanks Tony! Our mates at Wormoil have got a customer down on the River Murray who doesn't know whether he should laugh or cry. Ron Shephard has a dairy farm near Barham, NSW, and uses Beaulieu R.U.M. regularly to sweeten his pastures. Trouble is, his paddocks are next to a State Forest and the local Kangaroo population is showing a distinct preference for the R.U.M.-treated article. Try 'roo-steaks', Ron. Terry Foster at West Wyalong sowed 40 acres of wheat with 45kg/ha DAP. Then at early tillering, after applying a post-emergent herbicide, he sprayed 20 acres with 2.5L/ha R.U.M.,leaving 20 acres as a 'control'. Guess what? Terry increased his protein by 2% and stripped 6 tonnes more wheat from R.U.M.-treated area than the 'control'. Mate, treat yourself to a free night at the next B&S Ball. But leave our R.U.M. at home! Cheers, Choc.
R.U.M. preferred on historic 'Thologolong'Peter Sutherland's family has been breeding, showing and judging stud cattle since 1936. So when he claims that 'cattle are the best judges of feed quality', we are inclined to pay serious attention. Last October, the Sutherland's trialled Beaulieu R.U.M. on some pasture, leaving a 'control' area unsprayed. We were the first in the district to use R.U.M. and I saw a direct result. "The cattle had moved to the R.U.M.-sprayed area within 12 hours", Peter said. "And even though the season had been dry and cold, the clover was a darker green within 10 days." Further applications of R.U.M. were made to a paddock reserved for silage. As a bonus, the paddock was subsequently able to be grazed because of the extra pasture growth. Friends and neighbours in the Upper Murray area are now conduction their own R.U.M. trials and Peter is finding that while it's fine to be first, it's fun to be followed. Peter and Gina Sutherland check out R.U.M. pasture trials on their Upper Murray stud.
